Hot Stones Therapy has its roots in China, where the Chinese used heated stones to improve the function of internal organs over 2,000 years ago. The hot stone treatment is a type of massage that involves placing smooth, flat, heated basalt stones along your spine, in your palms, along your legs, and in-between your toes. This therapy helps with relaxation, comfort and healing.
How Does It Work?
The stones will be warmed in water by the Spa therapist until they reach the precise temperature range of 120 to 130 degrees Fahrenheit. To prepare your muscles for a hot stone massage, a standard Swedish massage technique may be used first. The warm stones will then be placed on important acupressure spots on your body. The stones warm and relax your muscles, allowing your massage therapist to use more pressure. Before the therapy, avoid eating a large meal or consuming alcohol.
Is This Therapy Right For Me?
Anyone with high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, varicose veins, migraines, rheumatoid arthritis, decreased pain sensitivity, recent wounds, areas of weakened or inflamed skin, tumors, metal implants, recent chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery, or who is on blood-thinning medication should avoid hot stone therapy. Tell your therapist if you suspect you could be pregnant.
